Channel Swim Success

Congratulations to the team of Worth students who successfully completed their relay swim across the English Channel yesterday.

Calm seas and sunny skies helped them on their way when they set off from Dover at around 6am on Monday morning (21st June). Taking it turns to swim for one hour each, the team of Sixth Formers – six and one reserve – made it to France in a superb time of 13 hours and 13 minutes. Nick Elvidge completed the final leg of the relay and ran up the beach upon reaching France.

In a message from the support boat, Dominic Robinson said, “A fantastic effort by everyone! We are all so overjoyed to have made it and must say a thank you to everyone who has helped and supported us along the way. We will say our proper thank yous when we are back on dry land!”

The other team members were Nick Gandy, Rory Pickard, Ben Clyde-Smith, Sasha Richards and reserve swimmer Raphael Gruber.

The team chose to swim the channel in memory of fellow Worth student Henry Surtees and hope to raise £15,000 for the Sussex Air Ambulance, Headway - the chosen charity of the Surtees family, which supports those who have suffered a brain injury - and the Matthew Elvidge Trust, which helps young men with depression.
