Phoenix Cup Five-a-side Football Victory
Once again this term Worth teams from Year 7, 8, 9 and 10 are competing in the Phoenix Cup five-a-side football competition against Chessington Sports College from London.
All teams play six fiercely competitive games against a school that specialises in football and who play regularly in a five-a-side league.
Mrs Joey Phillippo Nevill accompanied the teams to the cup competition. "Year 10 started strongly, playing some aggressive and entertaining football with Worth taking an early lead in the first game. However, the London side’s stronger indoor skills began to tell and they ran out winners of the competition. Worth can take credit for the way they stuck to the task and there were good performances from Jason Yau, who scored several of the goals, and Tommy Macari-Grover who showed some excellent close skills."
"The Year 9 team, led by an inspirational Dylan Lall, played some excellent football. In the second leg, they won the first game 6-0 after a great opening performance; the second 4-2 was won with Max Bergot and James Kemp playing a major part after Chessington took a 2-0 lead. In the last game, the team played some very attractive football and Inigo Roiz and James Burns helped to maintain Worth's unbeaten run, helping Year 9 to win the Phoenix Cup for the second year."
"Congratulations to all the players involved."
The Year 7 and 8 teams will complete their second leg next Wednesday (17th) with the Year 7s partiicularly in with a good chance of winning after their fantastic performance in the first leg a couple of weeks ago.
