Under 15 Sussex Sevens Plate Competition Winners
After losing their first match at the Christ's Hospital Sevens tournament yesterday (8th March), Worth went on to win their remaining group games and subsequently progressed through to the Plate competition. A resounding victory in the Plate semi-final, beating St Andrew's High School 54-7 led to a local derby final against Ardingly College.
Under 15 coach Mr Julian Williams accompanied the team. "It took a little while for the boys to change from the mindset of the 15-a-side game by ensuring avoidance of the contact area. However, once they realised that in order to progress further it would be necessary to keep possession and create space off the ball, tries started to come thick and fast, most notably against St Andrews High School. The first minutes of the final were very tense and closely contested, but once the big Ardingly defence was breached by a succession of well-created overlaps and quick thinking on the ball, the tries started to come and Worth emerged worthy winners." The final score was 22-5.
"All players in the squad took the field at some stage in the tournament and all were instrumental in producing a hard-fought and well-deserved victory. This success bodes very well for the future as half the squad were from the Under 14 age group."
