Making the Most of the Snow - in Canada
The day after the end of term in December, 16 Worth skiers and snowboarders, along with Mrs Phillippo Nevill, Mr Oxley and Mr Pimentel, set off for Mont St Anne, near Quebec in Canada.
Staying near Quebec allowed the students the chance to sightsee, experience the unique French Canadian atmosphere and practice their French language skills.
In the centre of Quebec, there are several outdoor ice rinks where locals go in the evenings to skate. “And they are all great, whether it is pirouetting like ice dancers or speed skating around like ice hockey players,“ said Mrs Phillippo Nevill. “It was very festive with Christmas music, beautiful skating …and then the Worth group arrived and were quite easy to pick out from the crowd with their unique brand of skating! The ice took quite a pounding!”
Despite worries of no snow just days before the trip, resort conditions were perfect and the group enjoyed some of the best (and coldest) skiing to be had in North America.
“Worth skied hard from first lift to last lift, skiing and snowboarding the most challenging runs on the mountain with huge improvements shown in technique. Everyone from beginners to advanced made the most of the fantastic snow.”
The next Worth ski trip will take place in December 2010. For further details, please contact Mrs J Phillippo Nevill in the PE Department.
