Middle School: Years 9 to 11

Year 9

The curriculum in Year 9 follows a similar pattern to that of Years 7 and 8, with some additions and modifications: Art, Design, Drama, English,  French, Geography, History, ICT, Mathematics, Physical Education and Religious Studies are studied in preparation for GCSE and IGCSE courses.  The Sciences are studied separately so students have lessons in Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Spanish or German can replace French or be studied as an optional second language. Latin and Music also remain as options.

Key Stage 4

In Years 10 and 11 students undertake the two-year GCSE or IGCSE course in a variety of subjects, usually 10 or 10½ in number.

The core syllabus includes English usually with English Literature (IGCSE), French, German or Spanish (IGCSE), ICT (OCR Nationals), Mathematics (IGCSE), Religious Studies (GCSE) and the Sciences, which can be studied separately or in the Double Award Science course which represents two IGCSEs. The available GCSE options comprise Art, Drama, Economics and Business Studies, History, Latin, Music and Physical Education. German, Spanish and Geography are also offered as options and follow the IGCSE course.  IGCSE ESL is also available for a small minority of EAL students.
