The Chaplaincy

At the heart of Worth is a compassionate community whose values and ethos are founded upon the teachings of Christian love, the values and traditions of the Catholic Church and the Rule of St Benedict. The Chaplaincy supports this work and inspires pupils to understand that all we do is for the greater glorification of God.

The Chaplaincy seeks to keep Christ at the centre of the School's life and this is achieved by a variety of experiences and opportunities. The School Chaplain is Father Martin and he is assisted by a team of Chaplains from the monastery. In addition Fr Stephen Huggins, an Anglican priest, is part of the team and his presence and work strengthens Worth's ecumenical outlook. A Housemaster and a member of the Religious Studies Department are also members of the team.

Chaplaincy Student Representatives

Twelve Sixth Form Chaplaincy Representatives help the Chaplaincy team to engage more closely with the students. One of their main tasks is to teach other students the practice of lectio divina which is the Benedictine tradition of prayerful reading of the Bible and relating it to our own lives. Chaplaincy Representatives also produce Identity magazine, which is a twice-yearly student publication focusing on spiritual awareness and development.

Days of Reflection

Days of Reflection for all year groups occur each year and are much appreciated by the students. The themes include Vocation and Gifts, Self-image and How God Sees Us, and Reasons for Hoping & Living. In addition Year 10 has a two-day confirmation retreat at Kintbury. The Chaplaincy also provides Ethos Days, Retreats, seminars and pilgrimages for staff and parents.

The Chaplaincy supports the school community in living out faith and the Benedictine values on a daily basis.

Charity

The Chaplaincy also supports the work of the students' Charity Committee which identifies and adopts the charities to be supported in any one year and co-ordinates the raising of awareness and fund-raising activities. In addition they work in close association with the school's voluntary service programme.
